HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS
The Queensland Climate Smart Energy Savers program rewards those that upgrade their current air conditioning with an eligible energy efficient air conditioner. Eligible families can receive a rebate of $400 – $650 on Split System Air Conditioners that are AS4755 compliant and 4 star rated or higher for cooling.
There are 2 rebates available-
- Standard rebate – available to all eligible Queensland households
- Low Income rebate – for those with lower annual income

- Step 1 – Review the eligibility criteria to check which rebate you can apply for
- Step 2 – Get a Quote on eligible air conditioner and book the installation
- Step 3 – Get your appliance installed, make payment and receive a tax invoice
- Step 4 – Apply for the rebate via the QRIDA portal using myGovID

T & C’s
- Program starts September 4th 2023.
- Funding is limited and applications processed on a first in – first served basis.
- Eligible appliances must be purchased and installed on or after the program start date.
- Only 1 rebate available per household.
- Rebates provided under the program cannot be higher than the total cost to purchase / install an eligible appliance.
- The standard rebate will be available to all eligible Queensland households, and higher rebates for low-income households.
- Rebates paid will be based on the appliance purchased and installed.
- You must be upgrading your old air conditioning – this rebate is not for brand new installations.
- Air conditioners must be 4 star-rated (or higher) for cooling and compliant with AS/NZS 4755.1:2017 (Demand Response Standard). Check with your retailer and/or installer to make sure your air conditioner meets these requirements.
- Appliances that require installation (i.e. air conditioners) must be installed by an appropriately licenced tradesperson.
- Applications for rebate must be received within 30 days of purchase/installation.
- Check the Qld Government website for all full T&C’s.
ELIGIBILITY
Standard Rebate –
Applicants must –
- be 18 or older
- live in a residential premises in Queensland
- have purchased and installed an eligible appliance in their residential premises while the scheme is open and while they occupy the residential premises
- not have already received assistance under this or another government program for the eligible appliance.
Eligible appliances include –
- air conditioners (AS/NZS 4755.1.2017 compliant and 4 star-rated or higher for cooling)
These appliances must –
- replace another appliance
- be used/installed at the residential premises listed in the application
- (where applicable) be installed by a person who is licensed to install the appliance.
Applications must –
- be submitted in the name of 1 person
- be made within 30 days of the eligible appliance being purchased and installed (whichever comes later).
Low-Income Rebate –
Applicants must meet all the eligibility criteria for a standard rebate and –
- provide a Notice of Assessment from the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) for the 2022-23 financial year showing that they have a taxable income of $66,667 or less, OR
- declare they have lodged a Return Not Necessary with ATO; receive a Government Pension/Benefit; or are a self-funded retiree.
If an applicant lives with a partner or spouse, the taxable income of whomever has the highest taxable income will be assessed.
